05 May New Temporary Parent Visas Introduced for Australia
The new temporary visa will not replace the current permanent parent visa options, which had been a concern for many families in the lead up to the announcement.
There will be a 3 year visa for AUD $5000 and a 5 year visa at a cost of $10,000.
The 5 year visa will allow for one renewal at its expiry – at a cost of a further $10,000. So a maximum of 10 years will be allowed on this type of visa.
The costs are what have been presented by the department of immigration this week. However, what we do know is where there is a large uptake in any visa category, the costs spiral upwards – and quickly.
The Contributory Parent visa additional fee has more than doubled in recent years, as has the Partner visa application fee. Both are increasingly popular visa streams.
The current permanent Parent visa has a 30 year wait – which makes it a fairly unattractive option for many parents wishing to join their children in Australia.
The other permanent option is the ‘queue-jumping’ Contributory Parent visa – the cost of which includes an additional $43k per applicant fee and a refundable bond of $10,000. This visa has a current waiting time of around 2.5-3 years.
